UPSC Civil Services Exam

c. Personality Test (Interview)

  • Purpose: Evaluates the candidate’s personality, mental ability, and suitability for a career in public service.
  • Structure:
    • Conducted by a UPSC board.
    • Marks: 275 (added to the Main Examination marks).
  • Nature: Interactive interview focusing on the candidate’s background, opinions, and overall demeanor.

2. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, candidates must meet the following criteria:

a. Nationality

  • For IAS, IPS, IFS: Must be a citizen of India.
  • For other services: Certain services may allow eligibility for subjects like “Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)” and “Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs).”

b. Age Limit

  • General Category: 21 to 32 years.
  • OBC (Other Backward Classes): 21 to 35 years.
  • SC/ST: 21 to 37 years.
  • Ex-Service Candidates: Relaxations as per government norms.

c. Educational Qualification

  • Degree: A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

  • OBC: 9 attempts.
